An overview of my field work and field training skills, showing my capabilities to confidently and safely work in field environments.
Field Work in Dinosaur Provincial Park
Assisting in geological field work I helped gather stratigraphy data across the Dinosaur Provincial Park, assisting in PhD research.
- Utilized practical navigation skills in the maze like structures of the badlands coulees.
- Prepared the rock for stratigraphic section gathering using rck hammers, picks, and brushes to ensure proper exposure.
- Measured stratigraphic section using a jacobs staff with a high degree of precision within a couple cm of the GPS coordinates.
- Gathered high precision GPS points for the sections base and tops using real-time-kinematics and post-processing.
Field Training Courses
Completed two comprehensive field readiness training class while at the University of Manitoba, taring for a wide verity of field scenarios across disciplines.
- Practiced practical fire starting for safety out in field situations.
- Exercised safety skills such as proper clothing and layering, bringing field essentials, and how to manage an emergency.
- Demonstrated when and how to shock-wrap and split in case of emergencies.
- Displayed how to navigate using UTM maps and compass to triangulate positions and track distance, as well as other practical navigation techniques.
